— Kurami, Concept Artwork

Kurami (クラミー, Kuramī), not to be confused with Chlammy Zell, was originally the sole protagonist of the No Game No Life series. She is the initial idea for who is now known as Shiro, and as such does not make an appearance in the final product of the series.

Like Shiro, she was abandoned by her parents at a young age. She does not have an older brother unlike Shiro, who has Sora as her step-brother.

Appearance[]

Kurami has a striking resemblance to Shiro in almost every way, one slight difference is her hair design.

She is a pale-skinned girl with hair that is curly at the ends, along with a long lock of hair draping down from her hairline to her waist. Her hair appears shorter at times because she ties it up when working in the fields. While her eye color is unknown, it can be assumed she has the same eye color as Shiro. Her concept artwork describes her as having no real physical strength, which explains why she is very slim.

When she lived in one of the villages in the Elkia Kingdom, she wore a brown commoner outfit with a long skirt going down to her knees.

As soon as she had been recognized as the Queen of Elkia, she decided to dress as one to fit the part. She wore a similar outfit that Shiro wears in Light Novel Volume 1, however it is strikingly different as it is a completely white dress with a puffy skirt, white heels with flower decorations, white gloves, and a crown similar to Shiro's, but with extra accessories and it appears to be much more simple overall. Upon further inspection her crown could also be a flower hair adornment.

Personality[]

Kurami is described in her concept artwork as a shy paranoid girl who is afraid of others. She feels like she is a bother to everyone around her, and therefore tries to isolate herself. She uses her long hair to hide her face and never looks at someone eye-to-eye directly. Due to her situation in her village, she was constantly worried and suffered extreme levels of anxiety. She keeps all of her emotions bottled up inside however, and like Shiro she always has a blank expression on her face.

According to other notes included in the concept artwork(s), she has a good relationship with both Izuna and Steph, or at least their initial character concepts'. Izuna always thought Kurami was as cute as a doll and was around her frequently. The two have a strong bond as suggested by the concept artwork notes.

Her relationship with Steph is unclear, but the two seem to be opposites according to both of their descriptions. Kurami and Steph were both participants in the gambling tournament to become the monarch of Elkia, and in the end things ended in a similar manner to the final series with Steph accompanying her. The two have a mutual relationship, but as they are living together in the Royal Palace they seem to be on good terms.

Background[]

While there are no written versions of the original story publicly available, we do have notes to go off of from the creator, Yuu Kamiya. The notes suggest that Kurami is a natural-born Imanity on Disboard who was abandoned by her parents at an unknown age. For most of her life up until she was inaugurated as Queen, she worked in the fields of her village and tended to crops to make money to support herself. Unfortunately, she struggled due to serious anxieties she possessed, along with the paranoia of not being able to support herself.

The events that lead up to her becoming Queen are not written, not even in the notes, but it can be assumed she found out about the Gambling Tournament and entered it, ultimately winning against Steph and becoming the Queen.

As time went on, both Steph and her lived in the Royal Palace just like in the final series. It's assumed they went on to the Eastern Union as Izuna has a close relationship with her. Beyond this information, nothing else is really known or can be assumed. Until more information is given by Kamiya himself, this is all we have for Kurami.

Trivia[]

  • As expected, Kurami's name was given to another character, Chlammy, upon the release of the series and gained Shiro as her new name.
  • Kurami doesn't have a brother, hinting that Sora may have not been in the series originally, or may have been a completely different character later in the story.
