— The Devil to Sora and the others, Chapter 1 -
The Devil (魔王, Maō, lit. Devil) is a Phantasma that participated in The Great War. It created the Demonia race in a failed attempt to create more Phantasma. Without the Devil, the Demonia wouldn't be able to band together due to their instincts. Sora was frustrated that most information was contradictory about the Devil. During the war, it was believed the Devil was a mutated Phantasma, however Light Novel Volume 12 reveals he is not.
Appearance
Phenomenon
The Devil's phenomenon appears as a large tower residing at the center of the Garalm Continent, within the confines of the Demonia capital Garad Golm. The tower is comprised of 100 floors, with the very top holding his core. Every 10 floors holds a certain environment with a boss at the end, and go as follows:
- Floors 1-10: Cathedral
- Floor 1 is a safe zone for Challengers
- Enemies: Skeletons
- Boss Demonia: Minotaur (
牛頭の巨人 , Minotaurosu)
- Floors 11-20: Forest
- Enemies: Plants
- Boss Demonia: Triffid (
巨大植物 , Torifido)
- Floors 21-30: Limestone Cave
- Enemies: Orcs and Goblins
- Boss Demonia: Rock Golem (
岩石の巨人 , Rokkugōremu)
- Floors 31-40: Beach
- Floors 41-50: Desert
- Floors 51-60: Volcano
- Enemies: Harpy (ハーピー, Hāpī) and Naga (ナーガ, Nāga)
- Mid-Boss Demonia: Living Armor (
重装鎧 , Ribinguāmā) - Boss Demonia: Cerberus (
双頭狼を纏った狼少女 , Keruberosu)
- Floors 61-70: Dark Ruins
- Floors 71-80: Poisonous Swamp
- Boss Demonia: Arachne (アラクネ, Arakune)
- Floors 81-90: Battlefield Ruins
- Floors 91-100: ???
This tower of his is essentially a non-Euclidean geometric structure, looking as if it came straight out of Cthulhu Mythos. Its very existence violated intuition and cannot exist in three-dimensional space, appearing as an indescribable, twisted and incomprehensible otherworldly form. The entrance of the Devil’s Tower is about the size of Elkia Royal Castle’s Throne Room. Once inside, the large gate turns into a smaller door befitting the room size.
Core
It is currently unknown what the Devil's core looks like. All that is known is that it resides at the top of the Devil's Tower.
Fragment
Schira Ha created a fragment of the Devil using her powers and released him from his inactive state. This fragment appears as a small, fluffy creature with dark fur and red eyes.
Personality
The Devil is an extremely egotistical individual who often monologues and sees themselves above all others, boasting of their accomplishments and who they are. On the other hand, they are like that of a little kid trying to act cool but often appearing foolish and naïve. Due to his current form, he is also practically defenseless, and begs to be saved whenever. The Devil is, more or less, a complete show-off with, in his current form, nothing to back it up.
Abilities
Creation: The Devil has the ability to create many races, as shown with his ability to unite all of his races unto one name: Demonia.
Domain of Despair (絶望領域, Zetsubō Ryōiki): The Devil's nature. As its name implies, it's a connotative world—an expanding zone that devours all life's hopes (positive spirits) within it, whether organic or inorganic, existing or non-existent entities. Upon entering this domain, hopes are completely devoured, transforming individuals into living corpses.
History
The Devil is the reanimation of a phenomenon that has yet to occur, and rather manifested through the world's desire for the death of all living beings that peaked during the Great War. His existence in of itself is an enigma, and is contradictory in nature. He exists as a common enemy that must be stopped to save the world from its destruction.
The Devil was inactive for 408 years until Schira Ha resurrected him in a fragmented form, and previously came back 415 years ago. He was rendered inactive due to a draw with the Dwarves, who, led by the chieftain of Hardenfell Dagan and his harem, attempted the Devil’s game 100 consecutive times until they managed to put the Devil in a dormant state.

Trivia
- During the Great War Simulator game, Sora's meddling caused the Elves to attack Demonia and hunted their orcs to near-extinction. Seeing the misery of his creations, the Devil intervened and caused great loss to the Elves. However, the tables were soon turned when the Elves unveiled Áka Si Anse, the ultimate anti-Phantasma weapon.
- The Devil may be based on the Cthulhu Mythos deity Azathoth.
- The Devil's Tower may be based on Stephen King's The Dark Tower, which in-universe is stated to be the nexus of all universes.
- The Ex-Machina once invaded the Tower to defeat the Devil sixteen times, however, it also resulted in their disappearance on each of their invasion attempts. Not only the Ex-Machina, but several other races such as Flügel, Elf, Dwarf, and even two of the Old Deus failed to defeat the Devil.
